Est. 2026 · Letters from a slower kind of travel

The Grand Tour, written for the way we travel now.

For two hundred years, young Europeans went off for a year or two to see Paris, cross the Alps and stand in the Forum. They wrote home about it. This is a letter home in that spirit: the places they went, the things they carried, the letters they sent, and everything else going on in the world while they were away. Wherever we can, we'll show you the real thing, whether it's still on the street, sitting in a museum, or scanned and free online.

The Route

Out through France, over the Alps, down to Rome, home by Venice.

The letters follow the old circuit stop by stop. Each one tells you what the travellers came to see and what is still standing there today.

Receive the letters

New letters come out when they're ready, roughly once a week. The email edition starts soon. Until then, there's a feed, the old-fashioned way.
